Attendance Notes

If your student is absent, please send an email to PGMattendance@forsyth.k12.ga.us with the following information:

Student's ID number, reason for absence and attach any medical notes.

We only accept emails and notes.

Excused Absences

The following reasons will be approved as an excused absence:

1. Personal illness or attendance in school that endangers a student's health or the health of others.

2. A serious illness or death in a student's immediate family.

3. A court order or an order by a governmental agency mandating absence from school.

4. The observance of religious holidays.

5. A scheduled medical, dental, or eye examination of the student.

The student's parent or guardian must submit a written notice stating the specific date(s) and reason(s) for a student's absence from school within five (5) school days after the student returns to school. An absence for which written notice is not received or received past the five-day time limit will be considered an unexcused absence.

Unexcused Absences

A student's absence from school or class for any reason other than those listed above will be considered an unexcused absence.

Check-in / Check-out

If a student arrives at Piney Grove Middle School after 9:00 am, then the student will be considered to be a late check-in (Tardy).

If a student leaves Piney Grove Middle School prior to dismissal (4:15 pm), then the student will be considered to be an early check-out (Early Release).

Check-outs are no later than 3:30 P.M.

Student check-ins and check-outs are considered UNEXCUSED until we receive a parent or medial note.**

**PLEASE NOTE - If a parent uses the checkmate computer in the lobby to check-in or check-out a student, those are automatically marked as unexcused until there is a follow-up email/note from the parent or a doctor's excuse note is turned in.  If you turn in a medical note, it will reflect MED on the attendance report.  That is considered excused.  If you send an email or a handwritten note, and the absence falls under the excused absences listed above, it will reflect AE on the attendance report, which is Absence Excused.  If the school does not receive a parent/medical note, the attendance report will reflect AU, which is Absence Unexcused. All excuses must be given within 5 days of the absence.

Parent/guardian must check-in their student. Students are not allowed to check-in themselves.
